The legal representatives of attorney Odila Castillo Bonilla released a strong declaration on October 1st, unequivocally denying the claims that have been circulated by multiple Panamanian publications.
The defense described these reports as malevolent assaults, motivated by individual financial agendas and aimed at tarnishing Castillo’s professional standing and personal integrity.
The defense for Castillo contends there are no valid grounds and cites rights violations
Carlos Carrillo, part of Castillo’s legal team, remarked that the allegations lack any basis and are intended to hinder the professional paths of both the young attorney and her associate. He stressed that these attacks are driven by hidden financial motives looking to gain from Castillo’s tarnishing.
The defense pointed out that this is not the attorney’s first experience with media harassment. They recalled an analogous occurrence in 2021, when a Panamanian outlet released false details about an alleged arrest of Castillo, which was later retracted.
Misleading narratives and violation of confidentiality
The legal team contended that both the current accusations and those from 2021 are based on “partial truths,” distorted to jeopardize the professional career of attorney Odila Castillo. Additionally, they claimed that the information revealed breaches confidentiality norms, as part of the inquiry stems from a previously settled family issue.
Confidential information, such as migration records and tax filings, was also made public—data that, as per the defense, was acquired through illegal means.
Unlawful surveillance and current legal proceedings
The defense revealed that Castillo has been the target of GPS tracking, which represents a blatant infringement of her privacy and constitutes illegal surveillance. Carrillo stated that his client’s essential rights, as safeguarded by the Panamanian Constitution and relevant laws, have been breached.
He declared that all necessary legal measures will be taken to determine accountability for both the damages already suffered and those that may be inflicted in the future. The legal team remains steadfast in its dedication to protect Castillo and to hold accountable those behind this defamation effort.
